Hand-operated foot and cycle ferry, controlled by a cable or chain. In a quiet location 12km from the centre of Rotterdam.

The ferry is on the right of the picture, the landing stage on the left. (See also the Street View image below)

Push and turn the handle to haul the ferry to the other side. Quite hard work, especially as the ferry was on the far bank when I arrived and I had to turn an on-shore handle (to the right of the camera, not visible) to haul it towards me.
