[UPDATE: On 27.2.23 I met a LibDem ward representative in situ. On 2.3.23, at his request, I emailed him my views. These include (but are not limited to) how the changes do not reduce speeds but actually create danger and additional pollution; local people did not know about the consultation and therefore were excluded from it; the measures are 'one end' rather than 'whole road'; the changes create or reinforce inequality.] [Image taken 10.2.23] Copy of Focus on Clifton Ward, York delivered to residents in February 2023. [NOTE: Location is indicative.] The second newsletter since the 'traffic calming' measures on Burton Stone Lane were put in, in November 2022. It says they welcome feedback but I haven't had any response to mine. There's still no mention of pedestrians and people who cycle. In my view as someone who - tries - to do both here the effects of the works have made moving around on foot and on a cycle more intimidating and more dangerous. Context: #190968. Reminder: One third of Clifton Ward households do not have access to a motor vehicle: #190613.
MY EXPERIENCE: I have noticed - when walking along here in the evenings, after dark - that drivers, and this most recently included of an ambulance that did not have its blue lights or siren on, continue at speed into the 'pound' even if there is oncoming motor traffic. The vehicles pass as they would were there no measures. Are these regular users of Burton Stone Lane (the presence of the ambulance driver might suggest so) and they have realised once in the 'pound' the carriageway widths are the same as outside/was they always were and no longer feel the need to giveway?
The view of the Labour Party (www.yorklabour.org.uk/) councillor for Clifton ward Labour party from an email dated 2.1.23 replying to my concerns:
"A little disappointing that it is a 'new low'! But then again, the Council has great form in this area.
I am sure some of your comments will be picked up by Officers as part of their review work."
The Councillor has of 10.2.23 not responded to my requests to meet in situ.
