Photo #31793

In the foreground is the redetermined footway of North Hanover Street, part of Glasgow City Council's flagship Colleges Cycle Route which turns left at this point up a path towards Strathclyde University. The footway beyond this junction is just an ordinary footway (no cycling allowed).

Not only does the redetermined section of footway have no signing to say that cycling is allowed, although it fails to meet "Cycling by Design" guidelines, but there is no dropped kerb to allow cyclists not heading along the cycle route to leave the route and join the carriageway. Now Glasgow City Council is preparing to install a pedestrian guard rail which will block this cycle route access point, forcing cyclists heading to the city centre to cycle along the ordinary footway to get around the railing.

The upper cycle route sign, on the single round pole, is pointing in the wrong direction.

The cycle lane on the road is associated with the Advance Stop Line at the traffic signals ahead and does not continue beyond the junction.
