27653Photo #27653New road layout at Scotland Street/West Street junction where there is a stopped up road with cycle exemption on one side. A gap has been left between traffic islands, but hatching has been painted onto the road instead of a cycle right turn lane. The corner of the traffic island also juts out into where cyclists will be turning. See also photos #25347 and #27654.Road environment:

27652Photo #27652The Shakespeare Street contraflow cycle track has been replaced by a false one-way street at the new Tesco goods exit. Shakespeare Street is part of a link route between the River Kelvin cycleway and the Forth & Clyde Canal.

Now that the contraflow is in the form of a kerbside cycle lane, it regularly gets blocked by parked cars. Previously the entry to the contraflow was out from the kerb.

27087Photo #27087Strange combination of cycle lane, bus stop and pedestrian crossing. When a bus stops here, it is at a dropped kerb for someone's driveway and stopped over the pedestrian crossing, and there's no Bus Stop markings on the carriageway to alert cyclists to the fact that buses may be pulling in here.Road environment:

26410Photo #26410Lots of cyclists use North Hanover Street (which leads to various cycle routes) and the contraflow bus lane is extra-wide, so why not include a cycle lane up the hill to discourage motor vehicles from hogging the inside at the lights (taxis regularly form two lanes here, even though only one is marked) thus allowing cyclists an unobstructed run up to the lights?Road environment:

26215Photo #26215The northbound Clyde Tunnel cycle & pedestrian tunnel is looking a bit grotty these days. Graffiti dating back to 2002 and plenty of soot on the previously white-washed walls and ceiling. Now there is a door-entry system to keep out the neds, can we not have some sort of clean-up in here?

There is a video of the northbound tunnel at www.youtube.com/watch

26203Photo #26203Spot the path. Don't bother trying to cycle this one just yet. However, Sustrans is part-funding a new path near here called the Levern Valley Way:

"The project will connect Barrhead to Glasgow and close a major hole in the network by uniting two disconnected paths. The completed route will give cyclists a 5km off road route from Barrhead centre into Glasgow. The project was chosen for three reasons: the need to close the gap, the added value realised to the excellent and existing paths, and community need indentified when consultating on the Core Paths Plan plan, The East Renfrewshire Local Plan and development of the Levern Valley Path Study. Onward cycle connections are established in Glasgow and connect to NCN 7. For the first time East Renfrewshire will be connected to the National Cycle Network"
